Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Kye M. Rymer said the inclusion of the British Virgin Islands in Caribbean Airlines’ route network has been a long time coming.

Honourable Rymer in remarks to mark the airline’s inaugural flight BW294 to the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport on Monday, said the occasion was a significant milestone in enhancing intra-regional connectivity across the Caribbean.

Honourable Rymer said, “We are proud and excited to have this airline operating here. This milestone not only enhances our connectivity but also opens up new opportunities for travel and tourism within our region.” 

Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley The said the arrival of Caribbean Airlines is expected to stimulate economic growth by facilitating easier access for tourists and business travelers alike.

Premier Wheatley highlighted the broader implications of this service stating, “Intra-regional travel catalyzes economic growth. It opens new markets, creates jobs, and stimulates investment. For our territory, increased connectivity means more visitors, more business for local enterprises, and a stronger economy.” 

Chief Operations Officer for Caribbean Airlines Mrs. Nirmala Ramai said the airline is building bridges, creating opportunities and supporting the development of the Caribbean in ways that matter.

Mrs. Ramai said, “Caribbean Airlines entry into the British Virgin Islands is a testament to the commitment of both the airline and local government to bolster regional travel. With four flights weekly connecting Tortola to Trinidad, Puerto Rico, Antigua, and Barbados, this new service is set to bring over 540 seats into and out of Tortola each week.”

The ceremony to welcome the inaugural flight also featured cultural presentations that showcased the rich heritage of the Virgin Islands. Passengers were greeted with traditional hospitality as they disembarked, marking a joyful beginning to this new chapter in Caribbean aviation. 

As Caribbean Airlines continues to expand its network, the airline would be seeking to reinforce its role as a vital connector within the Caribbean community. The Government of the Virgin Islands looks forward to a fruitful partnership that will enhance travel options and foster deeper connections among Caribbean nations.
