After playing to their only tie on the season against no losses, VG United scored all their goals in the first half, to flog Rebels 3-1 and improved to 5-1-0 in the BVI Football Association Men’s League play in Virgin Gorda on Sunday.
Levon Williams opened VG United’s scoring 13 minutes into the game. Joel Mars added a second score in the 35th, before T’Koy Morton made it 3-0 at the stroke of halftime, off a penalty. Sheldon Toney gave the 9th placed 1-0-4 Rebels their only score in the 78th.
Trailing 1-0 at the half, Justic Browne scored in the 52nd minute as Lion Heart and defending league champs Wolues, played to a 1-1 draw in Greenland. Marcus Robinson had given the Wolues the lead in the 26th minute. With the draw, both teams are tied in the standings with 11 points and a 3 win, 2 draw no loss record.
An improved Positive, 3-2-1 is in a three-way tie with the Wolues and Lion Heart on 11 points, after falling to Islanders, 2-0. Islanders are now 2-3-0, after Antonio Rodney had a brace with first and second half goals in the 41st an 68th minutes.
Playing all their games at home so far this season, the Virgin Gorda Sugar Boyz tasted victory for the first time, when they bested Old Madrid, 6-1. Old Madrid, 1-0-4, took the lead in the third minute on a legger by Richard Welcome. Sugar Boyz also 1-0-4 on three points along with the Rebels, scored six unanswered goals, starting with Michael Castello’s equalizer off a penalty in the 23rd minute.
Three minutes later, Andres Bailey made it 2-0, before veteran Derol Redhead—who won the BVI Cricket Association Peter Haycraft Ten10 Tournament most runs scored award with 287—started his hat trick with two goals in the 45th minute, for a 4-1 halftime advantage.
Redhead completed his hat trick in the 70th after Anil David padded the score in the 50th.
One Love, the 2021-22 league champs beat the Panthers, 3-1 after playing to a 1-1 halftime tie, with the Panthers’ Louis Buckley conceding an own goal in the 31st, and Enrico Bowen scoring off a penalty in the 42nd.
Tashan Wallace gave the 2-1-3 One Love a 2-1 edge in the 76th before Zeron Samuel added a goal in stoppage time for the 3-1 win. The Panthers, also 2-1-3, are tied with One Love on seven points.
